ParQ on Flinders sits on a triangular site at the northern entry to Wollongong’s CBD. Four residential towers surround a landscaped courtyard making a place for 500 residents to establish a village within the city, with the city its ‘living room’.
The 6m diagonal fall and irregular shape, including a long elevation to the west and narrow neck to the north, presented a challenge to sustainability. To address this potential liability and achieve an optimum passive solar design, the building and its interiors are configured to allow ample sunlight to penetrate all private and communal garden areas. The bronze mesh ribbon morphing on each elevation, responding to the particular aspect, became a key design element, complemented by building services supported by rainwater collection and solar panels.
