The compact 90-square-metre holiday home opens with ritualistic precision when occupied, and shuts up tightly when not in use. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom beach house is a modern take on 1950s and 60s Fibro Beach house.
The expansive view is the focal point. Frameless detailing of the windows makes the frame disappear, drawing the view into the room. Internally, the layout is compact but considered.
The kitchen and dining are connected by a 5m long table / island bench made from blackbutt timber.
Materials are simple – Colorbond steel, blackbutt timber, Bluestone, FC Sheet and Barestone cladding – chosen for durability and honesty.
Every detail serves a purpose. Olive Street Cabin is restrained but not plain. It’s a beach house that feels open and relaxed, connected to its surroundings and grounded in its context.
The House is the perfect city escape, and enhances our lives by connecting us to the amazing landscape.
The perfect place to slow down, enjoy the outdoors and watch as the view / ocean / landscape slowly changes throughout the days / nights and seasons. We love that the house feels like an extension of the outdoors, and we can adjust it to the weather – warm and enclosed when it’s wintery and wet outside, or open and breezy to feel the sea air on a summer’s day. We love how connected we feel to the wildlife and landscape while we’re in it.Client perspective
