Nine The Esplanade | REX and Hassell

Nine The Esplanade is a landmark collaboration between New York-based REX and Hassell at Elizabeth Quay. The interior architecture translates the tower’s refined vertical expression into a civic arrival sequence defined by simplicity, refined detail and enduring materials. 

Ground and Level 1 are conceived as an extension of the public realm, connected by voids, bridges and a large timber bleacher that draws people upward to make the building’s energy visible from the precinct. A monolithic travertine clad core spans the double height lobby, its vertical grain echoing the external mullion rhythm, while a custom white terrazzo floor reads as a seamless plane with minimal joints. Polished stainless steel detailing is used to visually recede secondary elements.

Whadjuk Noongar engagement informed the arrival experience, with two major artworks by Whadjuk Noongar artist Brett Nannup integrated at ground level to reinforce the building’s relationship to Country.
