Millard Place Terraces sit opposite Wentworth Park in Glebe and are a 5 min walk to the new fish market development thats under construction on Blackwattle Bay and is a 30 min walk to the CBD.
The realised design outcome resulted in a finely layered 3 level development that clearly expresses each of the 15 individual terraces. The buildings articulation of tall window boxes and sloping roof forms reference the diversity of the built context of 2 and 3 storey terrace houses and brick apartments.
The variety of spaces within, along with each one’s private courtyard affords residents a retreat from the world outside whilst at the same time being within walking distance to a vibrant and rapidly changing part of the city. The architecture reinforces the street scale and simultaneously revitalises the sites’ identity with its strong forms and continually changing play of light and shadow to its facades.
The brief to WMK was for a series of luxury townhouses with at least 3 bedrooms plus parking to replace the existing Glenmore meats building.
We felt the sites’ location to both the CBD and Glebe along with the pending redevelopment of the fish markets could offer a unique selling opportunity to a broad range of buyers.
WMKs design response not only achieved the yield desired but avoided digging out a costly basement level. The creation of an internal courtyard along with placing all the living areas and associated outdoor terrace unlocked the enormous potential of this unique site.
