Media summary

Meriden Senior School’s new Design and Creative Arts building is designed to inspire student creativity, by crafting a building that reflects the process of making, prototyping and the creative arts disciplines.

Located on a school campus with limited space, the building floats as a sculptural form above natural ground, creating a continuous protective perimeter, bringing nature into learning spaces. Designed as a series of working studios with gallery and display spaces on all levels, student work is showcased throughout and embodies the school’s belief that creativity and design thinking are essential to a complete education.

Perched above the public thoroughfare, the DaCA building sits behind mature trees along Redmyre Road. Within the site, the building stands proudly on the western end of the senior school campus, presenting a contemporary addition to the school, overlooking the Strathfield neighbourhood and tree-top canopies to the north and west.

"The philosophy of our Design and Creative Arts Department is to cultivate students who are contemplative, logical, and creative thinkers. They are encouraged to be courageous and confident, developing the skills to  work both independently and collaboratively. They learn that failure is an essential part of their journey, and they approach problem-solving with an open mind and empathy.

This new building serves as a catalyst for innovation and imagination, where students will explore digital design, experiment with traditional and contemporary art forms, and engage in collaborative creative projects.”
