Matagarup Zip + Climb is the operations hub for Perth's bridge climb and zipline experience, nestled within Burswood Park at the eastern gateway to the CBD.
The design responds to a site with no back, surrounded by river, wetlands, parkland, and views to the city and Matagarup Bridge. Rather than compete with its bold civic neighbours, the building borrows their material language, steel, timber battens, and textured render, in a quieter palette that allows it to settle into the regenerating landscape.
The program is split across two pavilions, operations and café, connected by a covered walkway. This village-like arrangement reduces the building's presence and opens up grassed banks where visitors can sit and watch the ziplines come in.
It's a modest project that does a lot: operational base, public amenity, and a piece of parkland infrastructure designed to feel like it has always been there.
This project delivers a highly efficient, durable, and contextually sensitive operations hub that supports the Matagarup Bridge tourism activities while enhancing the broader park experience. By separating the form into two compact buildings and embedding them within the landscape, the design reduces visual impact, improves wayfinding, and creates a welcoming, flexible destination for visitors. Robust, low‑maintenance materials minimise long‑term operational costs, while integrated landscape and water‑management strategies lower environmental and maintenance burdens. The result is infrastructure that supports tourism growth, strengthens public amenity, and reinforces our commitment to sustainability, longevity, and place‑responsive design.
