Media summary

Markina redefines tropical luxury living on Townsville’s waterfront. Designed for a couple entering retirement, the home balances everyday comfort with the capacity to host family and friends. A double-height living area forms the heart of the home, framing panoramic views of The Strand, Magnetic Island and Castle Hill.

The design pairs the lightness and transparency of an ocean-facing façade with the permanence of a concrete structure, while a pared-back palette of Tasmanian oak, stone and natural textures adds warmth and refinement. A suspended, cantilevered staircase and an inverted arch motif tie interior and exterior spaces together, blending drama with human-scale intimacy.

Outdoors, a weathered timber deck and covered verandah connect the home to the water’s edge, while a private rooftop terrace offers sweeping views with complete privacy. Close collaboration between owners, architect and builder delivered a luxurious, high-quality home with careful attention to efficiency and detail.
