This home is shaped by two distinct human experiences inspired by its dramatic headland setting. One immersing occupants in expansive views and shifting weather patterns over the Swan River (cultivating a sense of freedom / connection to nature). The other turns inward, framing intimate views to gardens and artworks (supporting reflection, daily ritual, human connection).
The brief organises layered experiences around a central garden and lightwell. Retractable glass walls open living spaces to terraces and perfect weather. Varied proportions balance family privacy, guest accommodation and entertainment options.
Aesthetics respond to the clients’ desire for playful forms and a sense of drama (they met as extras on the set of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back). Stone and concrete anchor the home to the landscape, contrasting a sinuous roof projecting the building and its occupants into the view. Holistic sustainability, durable materials and flexible planning ensure long-term adaptability and performance.
As recent retirees our forever home plays a huge role in our lives. The house reflects our love of entertaining, is practical & fun for our growing family of grandchildren. It provides for ageing in place. We required natural ways to provide year round comfort which has been achieved with great flow through breezes with the cost effective addition of PV cells & batteries for heating & cooling. With a connection to the entertainment industry we added a touch of drama to the project with a striking waved roof, a sweeping staircase & stunning powder room that never fails to amaze our visitors
