Media summary

This is a great example of what can be done with an old house. The characterful old structure is repaired and extended, responding to the demands of new occupants and a very exposed environment.

Considerable work went into making the house energy efficient – from installing solar panels, converter and heat pump and energy efficient appliances and fittings. It is wrapped in insulation, double glazed and protected from bushfires.

The interiors use colour and materials to reflect the house’s history and environment.

It would have been much easier and possibly cheaper to demolish the old house and build from scratch but worthwhile environmentally to keep and reuse all that existing material.
