Located in North Adelaide, K House is home to a recently retired couple. With the architecture extending to all boundaries, much of the design focuses inward.
The design explores the dichotomy between flow and definition. An open floor plan allows fluid transitions, with voids creating layered connections and skylights drawing light into unexpected places. Timber joinery flows between rooms, while inset floor finishes and joinery placement define distinct zones within the broader volume.
Composed of natural materials, there is authenticity, where the tactility of materials shape the sensory experience. Different light qualities render the interior, changing throughout the seasons.
K House reflects story and ownership, with the owners adding the final layers through loose furnishings, art and objects. Functional at its core, the honest and durable materials ensure longevity. Yet it is the understated playfulness that create quiet moments of surprise which will continue to delight.
We are enjoying our new home more than we ever imagined.
Architects Ink have excelled in creating a beautifully spacious home on a compact allotment, which enjoys an abundance of natural light, lofty ceilings and peaceful outlooks over private courtyard gardens. We love the rooftop garden, fresh herbs and citrus are always at hand.
Our main living area makes entertaining family and friends an absolute joy. It is an attractive and inviting space, opening to the main garden and swimming pool, and features a much-admired wine room.
We are so proud of the home which has been created for us.
