Media summary

Set in Haileybury Brighton’s historic Castlefield House campus, the Pre-Senior Centre is tailored to students transitioning from Middle School to Senior School. The building provides a home for students, supporting the necessary development of knowledge and skills, within a physical environment that promotes wellbeing through connections with landscape, natural materiality and the broader site itself.

Working closely with Haileybury stakeholders through a detailed education briefing process, the project provides formal teaching spaces and a range of learning settings for individual, group and project-based learning. Each learning space is supported by tailored audio-visual systems to suit the school’s multi-campus curriculum and online Pangea program.

The flexibility of the ground level project space and learning café, as well as the connection to outdoors, is supported by full length panel lift doors. This enables a myriad of school functions from open days to lectures, project work, exams and e-sports.

The Year 9 Pre-Senior building at Haileybury Brighton enhances education and collaboration by providing spacious, light-filled teaching areas that foster student engagement. The thoughtful layout ensures visibility, creating an environment where students and staff feel connected and supported.

Clever design elements optimise natural light, enhancing the learning experience while promoting sustainability through materials used and energy-saving initiatives that meet the school’s sustainability goals. Social spaces encourage meaningful interactions, allowing students and staff to collaborate and exchange ideas in a welcoming atmosphere. This building is more than a space—it’s a dynamic hub for learning, growth, and innovation, supporting our community’s needs.
