Project summary

A new cabin concept drawn from the site-specific setting – the natural locale and the rural context. Exemplify the materiality derived from this setting and to hero the rural landscape.

Situated on the Murray River within the Euston motel development represents a unique opportunity to design accommodation which sits lightly upon the river bank and takes cues from the surrounding environment.

Simplistic forms and detailing references drawn from the trade history of the area with paddle steamers connecting townships along the river, and Euston’s proximity to local agriculture of the Riverina and the rural warehouses and woolsheds.

New South Wales Jury Presentation

Set in a picturesque rural location on the Murray River, the Euston Motel was looking to improve their existing accommodation offer to broaden their appeal with domestic and international travellers.

We wanted to give the accommodation a subtle, earthy presence that sits lightly upon the riverbank without compromising the surrounding environment.

Delays to project completion due to flooding at the end of 2022 brought huge pressure upon the project, which was to be opened in time for the 2022/2023 holiday season.
