EA house is a family home carefully crafted onto a sensitive rock escarpment in the NSW southern highlands.
Simple in form, it solves many overlapping constraints and challenges and tests opposing conceptual ideas in a elemental gesture. Located on the edge of a rock cliff that had been deemed unbuildable.
It manages the geotechnical, ecological, energy, access & the highest level of bush fire challenges which all solved in one singular sculptural form. touching the ground purposefully but minimally no existing flora and fauna was touched and Its bridge provides both access & all services without further affecting the natural rock.
paired back monastic, Humbly sized private spaces have controlled light and view creating intimate and reflective living amongst a dramatic outlook is intentional against the larger curated openings to the gorge of the shared spaces offer different perspectives for the family play and learn together.
A dream home for our young family. Surrounded by the beauty of the bush we have a sense of living in connection with nature, the feeling calm and sanctuary from our busy lives. Sunken into the rock face, yet towering over the treetops. The kids wake up for weather watch and spying on the native animals, contrasting materials and textures makes for a beautiful sensory experience. The careful placement of differently sized windows, some large and expansive and others playfully small allows different perspectives for us to observe the world outside and to play and learn together as a family.
