Double Bay Arches is a commercial development at the intersection of two tree-lined streets in Double Bay. Positioned on a prominent corner leading to the ferry stop, the building serves as a gateway to the suburb while responding to the constraints of its compact, irregular site.
Inspired by the surrounding Chinese elm trees, the façade’s tall arches and warm material palette create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, seamlessly blending with the streetscape. The design of the façade also prioritizes natural light and ventilation, with operable windows and a louvred façade system enhancing energy efficiency.
Close collaboration with engineers enabled space optimization, including tensile concrete construction for higher ceilings and a car stacker system to maximize commercial space. Double Bay Arches exemplifies thoughtful design, sustainability, and architectural excellence in the urban landscape.
The new building has significantly enhanced the work environment for our staff and clients. Staff members adore the space and take pride in working there, appreciating its unique design that stands out both day and night. The north-facing windows flood the interior with natural daylight, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere year-round. The sliding windows offer flexibility, allowing us to choose between air conditioning and natural airflow. This comfortable and adaptable environment has even attracted people who usually prefer to work from home back to the office, occasionally leading to a delightful challenge of desk space availability.
