Mezzanine House blends timeless and contemporary elements, using concrete, stone, metal, and timber to create a tactile, engaging palette. Prioritizing openness, natural light, and passive solar strategies, the home integrates seamlessly with its site to ensure comfort and aesthetic richness.
Responding to the evolving neighborhood, the project introduces a refined aesthetic while respecting the architectural context. Its materiality and proportions enhance the streetscape, adding texture and depth. The home is designed for aging in place, fostering a sense of belonging with a balance of privacy and openness.
Strategic massing reduces overshadowing, and the upper floor’s setback minimizes street visibility, maintaining a predominantly two-storey form. The design responds adaptively to the site’s microclimate, ensuring privacy and sun control.
Durable, low-maintenance materials and efficient construction practices ensure long-term value. Solar PV with battery storage, energy-efficient systems, and water-saving fixtures contribute to sustainability, while adaptable spaces support the family’s evolving needs.
Inspired by the coast the design embraces easy living with seamless indoor-outdoor spaces that invite the ocean breeze and sunlight into our home. For our family of five, the open-plan layout encourages connection, while private retreats allow for quiet times. The one-bedroom apartment above reflects thoughtful planning, offering flexibility for empty nesting and visiting family. Our home balances beauty and practicality, allowing us to work, play, and relax with ease. It offers us everything we need as a family & will for transitioning years.
