Media summary

Situated on an exposed Byron hinterland ridgeline, Coopers Shoot emerges as a series of terraced stone platforms rising organically from the landscape. The design embraces 'crafted modernism'—minimalist forms enriched through handcrafted textures intrinsic to site.

Beautiful basalt stone scattered through existing paddocks became the foundation material, its rusty tones and warm greys guiding all colour and material decisions. Heavy stone walls and rustic materials create a durable framework for rural family life, designed to weather work boots, dogs and red dust without preciousness.

Dramatic proportions and oversized openings frame sweeping views to Lennox Head while deep thresholds mark transitions between private, communal, indoor and outdoor zones. Adjustable timber screens and fully retracting doors transform the house into a veranda within the landscape. From sun-drenched terraces to sheltered courtyards, the home responds to shifting hinterland climate.
