Anzac parade apartments are a direct response to difficult site constraints and unconventional urban lots sizing. Ka Design studio created 16 apartments across two ‘towers’ connected by a podium with two commerical spaces below at ground level. With a strong focus on amenity the narrow site adopts a ‘less is more’ approach. Resisitng to merely masximise the GFA and fill the entire site , we pused the client towards a design focused outcome that provided a positive urbanism in a dense neighbouring fabric.
The focus on robust matierals and stong architectural resolution anchors the thin tall facade to its context and activates the laneway as it gentely turns the corner of the site.
The Architects bold use of a mostly a single material and storng architectural form was a great interpretation of what once stood on the site. It felt nostagic to the art ‘decoish’ style but new and fresh. The plan and typology of the apartments mean great aentiy for all inhabitants and a very pratical and useful infil for a once under utilsed and diffcult site to appropriate to generate more housing.
