The Institute is accepting nominations for the Institute’s 2020 Annual General Elections.
Nominations for all three elections streams opened on 9am AEDT Thursday 19 November 2020:
There are four (4) vacancies on National Council in this 2020 election.
Following the 2020 Constitution changes, six (6) National Councillors are to be elected by the voting members each for a term of three (3) years. To achieve the required number and term periods in the Constitution, there are four vacancies in this 2020 election round. Read more detail.
Elections will be held for the Chapter President role in the NSW, SA, Tasmanian and WA Chapters and for the Chapter Chair role in the International Chapter.
Eligible members are invited to nominate or be nominated for the role of Chapter President (Chair) in 2021 for a two-year term. The elected President or Chair will represent their Chapter on National Council.
Eligible nominees must be registered architects in the Chapter territory. Current Chapter Presidents seeking re-election must re-nominate.
There are five (5) vacant positions on each Chapter Council.

Voting in the Institute’s 2020 Annual General Elections is closed. Results will be announced shortly.
There are four (4) vacancies on National Council in this 2020 election, with 12 candidates.
Those Members with voting rights are able to vote for their preferred candidate(s) in order of numerical preference by selecting: 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Voters must select a minimum of four preferences (“1”, “2”, “3”, “4”) and it is optional to vote for any remaining candidates.
Votes will be counted using the Optional Multiple-Preferential system. In this system, all numbered voting preferences indicated, up to the total number of candidates to be elected which is 4, are called primary votes and are equal in value. All other numbered preferences beyond those primary votes will be used to allocate voter’s preferences.
This year a vote is not required for the Chapter President roles in any of the Chapters where the term of office of the current Chapter President / Chair ends early in 2021 (NSW, SA, Tasmania, WA and International). One nomination was received for Chapter President in the case of each of these Chapters and therefore nominees will be declared as elected, uncontested.
There are five (5) vacant positions on each Chapter Council.
This year an election is required in the following Chapters: ACT, NSW, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria.
Those Members with voting rights may vote in their respective Chapter for one or more candidate in their Chapter Council election. You will be asked to vote for your preferred candidate(s) by marking your vote for no more than five (5) candidates.
Votes will be counted using the multiple first-past-the-post system to identify the candidates who have received the five highest number of votes out of all the candidates. Those ‘top 5’ candidates will be declared elected.
For the NT, SA, WA and International Chapters, the number of candidates did not exceed the number of positions to be filled and no election vote is required.
Member categories eligible to vote are Member Level 1, Fellows, Life Fellows, Affiliate Level 1 and Graduates.
Voting closes strictly at 2pm AEDT on Wednesday 13 January 2021. Results are expected to be announced in that same week of January 2021.
