The Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal is the highest honour the Institute can bestow. The award was created 49 years ago to recognise distinguished service by Australian architects who have:
- designed or executed buildings of high merit;
- produced work of great distinction resulting in the advancement of architecture, or
- endowed the profession of architecture in a distinguished manner
The Gold Medal is held in high esteem both nationally and internationally with previous recipients including Robin Boyd, Jørn Utzon, Glenn Murcutt and Gregory Burgess.
The recepient of the 2009 Gold Medal is Ken Maher.
Ken has now completed his Gold Medal Tour around Australia. The Institute would like to thank Ken Maher for his work during the tour and also to all those who attended the Gold Medal events.
The 2010 Gold Medallist will be announced at the Australian Achievement in Architecture Awards on the 18th March 2010 in Brisbane
