2012 COUNTRY DIVISION ANNUAL CONFERENCE - UPDATE
"Across The Ditch"
The 2012 Annual NSW Country Division Conference will be held for the first time in Napier, New Zealand.
OCTOBER 1ST - 6TH 2012
Registrations for our 2012 Conference ‘Across The Ditch’ have been steadily flowing in and at this stage are on a par with previous years, which is great!
We realize however that some of you may have been feeling the end-of-financial-year pinch so have decided to extend the deadline for 20% Early-Bird registration discount to 31 July 2012.
The further deadline of 20 August 2012 for 10% registration discount remains - after that you will have to pay full price.
So get in now while you still have the chance – if you can’t pay until later and intend coming then send in your registration and we will invoice you so you can pay before the due date.
If you wish to book accommodation at the conference hotel Te Pania then you also need to act sooner rather than later as we’ve only reserved 60 rooms and they are filling up fast.

CONGRATULATIONS HARRY!
On behalf of all Country Division members, we wish to congratulate Harry Sprintz as a recent recipient of the MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA (OAM) with the official citation from the Australian Govenor General’s office reading, For services to architecture, particularly in the field of disability access.
Harry also recently was inducted into the Design Institute of Australia AUSTRALIAN DESIGN HALL OF FAME award at a ceremony at Doltone House, Darling Harbour.
“It is I believe also pleasing that as a resident and a practitioner in Country NSW that awards of this level of significance are not solely awarded to the ‘big end of city’ practitioners, which I sincerely hope will act as an encouragement to others in our RAIA,” Harry said.
Harry has also recently released for sale a book that he has spent over five years in writing and researching entitled HOUSE ADAPTATION with the sub-title, Practical guidelines for ‘informed’ choices in adapting a family home for ‘accessible living’ and a ‘Home for Life’. For more information on Harry’s book, please contact him directly at: harrysprintz@archinet.com.au or visit www.houseadaptation.com.au

UPCOMING EVENTS FOR YOUR DIARY...
ORANGE REGIONAL SEMINAR – Friday 24TH AUGUST
The next Regional Seminar on 24 August 2012 in Orange NSW will explore how regional Australia will not only survive, but develop a sustainable future.
How can the infrastructure and planning of these communities help avoid the unsustainable suburban sprawl of the 20th Century cities into regional Australia?
• How can regional areas achieve a sustainable population?
• What role does the architectural and planning industry play in the success of these growing communities?
• How do we connect regional and capital city communities through planning and infrastructure?
• How can regional centres be successful planned communities building on the character and identity that
make them special places?
• What are the practical first steps in achieving a network of large regional centres that fund and resource remote and rural areas.
