GEOMETRIES OF THE GAZE: A talk on the distinctive framing of the look in architecture by Michael Tawa (Professor of Architecture, University of Sydney)

Every gaze frames a distinctive look on the world, each with its own aesthetic, ethical and political implications. These outlooks are equally produced by architecture, cinema and portraiture. Looking is never neutral: one can look with indolence, disengaged curiosity or attentiveness; one can gaze in awe or in anticipation. How does architecture offer itself to view? What does it show? How does it frame particular kinds of looking and to what ends?
