2011 NSW Country Division Conference to be held in Coffs Harbour 4-8 October
“Beyond The Prism”
The practice of Architecture is under continual challenge.
Our traditional approaches to design, documentation, tendering, contracting and construction are under constant review and being challenged by increased client and community expectations, new paradigms and technologies, alternative procurement and construction methods.
Where are we? - Where are we going ? - What is the future ?
Our world is becoming distilled into single, quick,off-the-shelf answers.
The Disincentives to creative and individual thinking have been gaining the upper hand.
The “One size fits” all approaches are dominating our ethos and planning.
The Copy & Paste mentality is anathema to creative architectural solutions. Originality is under threat from ‘Template” clones and “Global solutions”. Large Monopolies are tending to usurp the Individual.
We might well argue that the traditional methods aren’t broke so why fix them. If this is the case then we need to re-package them to promulgate them to a skeptical and ill-informed market.
How is the Architect to survive?
“Beyond The Prism” will provide an opportunity for us to think outside the square, to consider the future trends, to review our design ethos and our responsibilities to our clients and our communities.
“Beyond The Prism” will attempt to inform us of ways to work with the trends and hint at some answers by focusing on works; ideas and concepts that are out of the ordinary.
Speakers from Architecture, Engineering and Sustainable Planning will challenge our traditional views and provide insights into new paradigms, technologies and practices. It will be an opportunity for us to collectively discuss and debate these issues rather than close ourselves off from the changing world of architecture.
It’s up to us to create an optimistic future, to meet the challenges head-on for our own and the community’s benefit.
