Ambulance Tasmania State Operations Centre - Xsquared Architects
The Ambulance Tasmania State Operations Centre houses a critical community service function - the State’s patient and community transport communications centre - as well other key facilities. Different internal functions are rendered visible through the use of three discrete façades facing Brisbane Street, one for each internal function. Each of these facades is, in turn, designed with the adjacent heritage listed Penitentiary Chapel in mind: the articulation of the slatted screen references the geometry of its Georgian windows and the enfolding steel art wall helps the two buildings to read as part of one urban composition. In this building Xsquared Architects have addressed exacting technical requirements, while also imbuing it with the urban relationships, sustainable features and dignity that was required.
