Danish Town Planners - Friday 21st August
I have been in discussions with the Danish embassy to bring two of Copenhagen’s top town planners to Hobart as part of a trip they are doing to Australia and New Zealand in August.
According to the embassy “Copenhagen has experienced noticeable development after the Copenhagen City Council and equal stakeholders in 1999 made a plan to convert the harbour area into high quality open public places. The idea has been to make the harbour an integrated part of the city, opening up all areas to the public by constructing both industrial and commercial buildings together with housing and public cultural buildings and sites. Throughout the planning stage there has been great awareness of, and respect for, old buildings as there has been no wish to bring down or damage present city buildings. Instead there has been a strong desire to unite new and old to create new urban spaces”. See www.cphx.dk for more details. We are hoping to organise a CPD event and a roundtable session with waterfront stakeholders. Please mark Friday Aug 21 in your diaries from 12.30 to 2 pm for the CPD event. We will provide further details of the speakers and the event as soon as they have been confirmed.
Other CPD Speakers and Topics - Have your say
Due to success in gaining funding from the Tasmanian Building & Construction Training Board, we have grant money available to bring more speakers to Tasmania as part of our CPD program for the second half of the year. Please email Jenny Nichols with any suggestions that you have for topics or speakers that you would like to hear. This is your chance to have input into the program for the rest of 2009.
Creative Directors - 10x10x10 Architecture Week
Thanks to those members who have expressed interest in being creative directors for Architecture Week. We have one spot left and would still like to receive expressions from individuals or teams who would like to arrange one night of speakers for the series, which goes over 4 nights from Monday to Thursday. Architecture Week is from Sunday 25 to Saturday 31 October. Please email tas@architecture.com.au or contact the Chapter office on 6214 1500 to express your interest. We will organize a meeting of those who have expressed interest shortly so that planning can begin for this exciting series.
