The William J Mitchell International Committee Prize is awarded annually in recognition of a significant contribution to architecture internationally. The prize seeks to honor Australians who have made a significant contribution to the profession, study or advancement of architecture beyond our shores.

The Institute has issued a challenge to 21st century designers and architects: if you were designing a capital city today, how would it look? CAPITheticAL invites you to look back at the big ideas that shaped our national capital and look forward to the big ideas that will shape our future cities in the 21st century and beyond.

Entries for stage 1 of CAPITheticAL closed on 31 January 2012. 114 inspiring and thought provoking entries were received from 24 countries around the world. 20 shortlisted finalistsare now currently working on stage 2 of the competition
