The Chief Judge comes to Tusculum!

What is the Land & Environment Court's role in adjudicating architectural and urban design cases? What is its multi-door policy? How do lawyers distinguish between legal and aesthetic issues? What is the role of the architect as an expert witness? Speakers include the Court's Chief Judge, The Hon Justice Brian Preston, lawyer Mary-Lynne Taylor and architects Nigel Dickson and James Phillips.
At the end of this session participants should be able to:

  • Understand how the Court adjudicates on planning and design matters

  • List the key attributes of the Court’s multi-door policy

  • Appreciate the distinction between aesthetic and legal judgments

  • Understand how the Court deals with s82 cases

  • Understand the types of cases in which the Court needs to rely on design expertise

  • Understand the role of the architect as expert witness
