20th Century Notable South Australian Architecture Register

The South Australian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects has recently established a register of notable 20th Century South Australian Architecture. The Register has been developed with the aim of increasing the public's awareness of the heritage values of 20th century architecture and hopes to stimulate discussion of our architectural heritage and regional identity.

Background

The 20th Century Notable South Australian Architecture Register Group was formed in 1998, to prepare a register of 20th century notable South Australian buildings.

The Institute (National) was also seeking to establish an Australian Register of 20th Century Notable Architecture in 1999 and the state list is to form the basis of nominations to the national list.

Members of the working group include architects: Richard Cook, Nicolette De Lernia, Michael Pilkington and chair - Michael Queale.

Aims & Objectives

• Establish / improve public awareness of notable 20th Century Architecture in South Australia.


• Identify and record notable 20th Century in South Australia, in database format, based on selection using established criteria.


• Foster a local architectural culture.
