Overview
HEAT, Queensland’s new wave of environmental architects, is an international marketing initiative with a simple objective: to highlight the creative talent of Queensland’s architectural and related design industries and to facilitate the export of this talent to the world.
HEAT launched with the world-class architecture exhibition, Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects, at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art in August 2008. Since then, the Queensland Government’s Creative Industries Unit, in partnership with the Australian Institute of Architects, has been actively pursuing export opportunities through a range of highly targeted initiatives including:
- Generating global publicity in some of the world’s most prestigious architecture and lifestyle publications - such as Architectural Review, Monocle, Wallpaper, Cube, InDesign, The Financial Times, A+D+M. Architects and Interiors India, Panorama Spain, Architext and Architects Choice. This is just a small sample of the $2 million-plus in global publicity generated in countries such as the UK, the US, Spain, India, The Netherlands, Italy, France and Germany
- Gaining international speaking opportunities for our architectural talent at events such as the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona, 2009
- Hosting international architecture media to Queensland to experience our projects first hand
- Creating international awareness and demand for information through our presence at the Venice 2008 architecture biennale (with a follow-up planned for Venice 2010)
- Creating a series of high quality HEAT marketing collateral, including a HEAT book, DVD and media kit.
HEAT has one key message: Queensland architects are environmentally responsive and responsible. Because of the depth of our architectural talent there is enormous potential for Queensland to respond to the global demand for environmentally responsive architectural and related design services and increase exports. HEAT encourages collaboration between Queensland architects and other international firms to secure major international commissions.
Architecture and related design comprise one of Queensland’s fastest growing creative industries sectors - there are 660 architectural firms in Queensland currently generating almost $600 million in annual domestic revenue and only $30 million in exports.
HEAT is an initiative of the Queensland Government through the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation’s Creative Industries Unit.
