The Australian Institute of Architects is proud to showcase its award-winning contemporary architecture on Google Earth.

The introduction of an Australian Institute of Architects layer in Google Earth extends the promotion of all awards entrants from the Institute's Project Gallery, the largest online database of architecture in Australia, to over 350 million Google Earth users worldwide.

Google Earth users will be presented with photographs and other information for over 600 projects winning state and territory awards over the past six years (exludes residential projects and those not for publication due to privacy and security reasons). In addition, over 60 3D models have been developed to showcase project winning national awards since 2002.

Download the layer into Google Earth by clicking here. The Institute placemarks will automatically appear. Click on any placemark to view the project or use your mouse to zoom in to the location.

Note that you must have Google Earth installed on your computer in order to view the layer. To download Google Earth, go to http://earth.google.com. Follow the installation instructions and open Google Earth.

The Australian Institute of Architects seeks to expand and advocate the value of architects and architecture, and this is a great opportunity to have exceptional Australian architecture promoted through the incredibly popular Google Earth.

Through the use of the 3D modeling tool called Google SketchUp, architects can build 3D models of buildings so that more alternative visions of the future can be explored. SketchUp was used to design the buildings and projects featured on the Institute layer.
