As part of the 2010 National Architecture Conference, the NSW Chapter is hosting architectural tours in and around Sydney on Thursday 22 April. Places on the tours will be limited, so we recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.

The Chapter run tours will meet at 8.45am on Thursday 22 April 2010. The buses will leave from Darling Drive Bus Stop, at the rear (western) side of the Convention Centre. Sunday Bicycle Derivé
In addition to the NSW Chapter tours, Sydney Architecture Walks (SAW) are offering a bicycle tour on Sunday 25 April. All information on the bicycle tour is outlined further down this page. TOUR 1: Tonkin Zulaikha Greer - Recent Projects
Hosted by Tim Greer, 9.00am - 1.30pm
Cost $75

The tour will visit three recent adaptive re-use projects by Tonkin Zulaikha Greer including the Carriageworks Performing Arts Centre, a new home for the contemporary arts in Sydney, Paddington Reservoir Gardens, the conversion of a dilapidated Reservoir into an urban park and the Zulaikha Laurence House on the foreshore in Balmain.

TOUR 2: HASSELL - Public Buildings SMXL
Hosted by HASSELL, 9:00am - 1:30pm
Cost $75

This tour will visit three award winning HASSELL projects representing the spectrum from very small to extra large. The projects each have greatly varied design challenges and contexts, vastly different construction budgets, and demonstrate a range of construction technologies and timeframes for realisation. The projects include: Turruwul Park amenities pavilion, Rosebery, The National Institute of Dramatic Arts -NIDA and The Epping to Chatswood Rail Link.

Despite the evident diversity in approach, expression, materials and construction method, these projects have in common the pursuit of a high environmental and sustainability aspiration, the elegant resolution of the design challenge, a humanist concern for the users of the buildings and wider community, and a delight in the refinement of detail

TOUR 3: FJMT
Hosted by Richard Francis-Jones, 9.00am - 1.30pm
Cost $75

Projects visited will include: Law Faculty at Sydney University, Surry Hills Library/Community Centre and The Mint, Macquarie Street.

TOUR 4: lahznimmo architects
Hosted by Annabel Lahz and Andrew Nimmo, lahznimmo architects. And John Thong, Wilson Architects (Lowy Cancer Research section), 9.00am - 3.30pm
Cost $75

The tour will visit three recently completed projects by lahznimmo architects. The projects vary substantially in size, program, site typology and geographical location in Sydney.

Visited sites will include Warragamba Dam Information and Operations Centre and Masterplan Works, Armory Wharf Café at Blaxland Park Riverside Park, Newington (adjacent Sydney Olympic Park), Lowy Cancer Research Centre at the University of NSW (in collaboration with Wilson Architects).

Following in the footsteps of the Situationalistes Internationale in Paris and STALKER in Rome we will drift along Sydney's industrial western edge before trespassing through the back streets of Ultimo, Chippendale, Redfern and Surry Hills sniffing out architectural and urban projects that are edgy, beautiful, provocative or raw.

The route and conversation will be structured around a number of contemporary architectural and urban projects, contested sites and themes including: Sydney's 2030 plan, Walsh Bay Finger Wharves (Mirvac/Transfield/PTW Architects), 30 the Bond (PTW Architects and Lend Lease Design), Barangaroo (Rogers/Lippman Partnership), Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre (Harry Seidler & Associates), Ultimo Affordable Housing (UAH) (Rod Simpson and Tonkin Zulaikha Greer), Fraser's Broadway (Foster/Jean Nouvel/JPW Architects), White Rabbit Gallery (Smart Design Studio) Redfern Park and Stadium (BVN Architecture), Stirling House (Mac-Interactive Architects), Price O'Reilly House (Engelen Moore), Wall Café (Six Degrees) and the Alvaro House (a new five storey precast house built on two car spaces in Surry Hills by Dom Alvaro).

The tour will start and finish in The Rocks, Sydney. We will finish with lunch in a pub in The Rocks for those who wish to join us from 1 to 2pm.
