Ringrose Residence
Brian Hooper Architect

A deceptively simple planning hierarchy linking three pavilions sheltered beneath a cantilevered skillion canopy, The Ringrose Residence as an exemplar is simple and unadorned, raw and robust with a leanness of structure. Deep rhythmic shadows form a cool and generous threshold to the landscape and relief from the arid topography.

The Globe
Brian Hooper Architect and m3architecture (architects in association)

Imbued with a deep respect and preservation of the outback pub typology, The Globe is an essay in celebrating timber single skin construction. Opportunity is made of the multi-layered patterns of timber, steel, translucent sheet’s light and shadow, whilst framing views within the building, the partially formed cloister and the streetscape.

Administration Chanel College
Tony Madden Architects Pty Ltd

Utilising a decidedly differing material palette and form from the existing campus, the new administration building is an emblematic structure. The strong tripartite planning diagram addresses the Community, the main formal entry and the Campus. A value added grandstand offers surprising and generous prospect over the adjoining Oval.

St Luke's Anglican School, Middle School Precinct
McLellan Bush Architects

By varying the types and scale of indoor and outdoor teaching spaces, a vibrant social communal hub is created to challenge the accepted pedagogy. A ventilated double height light scoop is lined judiciously with acoustical treatment and adaptable transparent walls activate the heart with unexpected generosity and vibrancy.

ThomsonAdsett

The simple clean form conveys a legible, functionally optimised planning diagram.
Intense user group interactions have successfully planned a healthy environment of patient focused perimeter rooms overviewing a backdrop of native landscape. Graduated colour is introduced as an identifying legibility element and enhancing the setting throughout.

CQU Building 34
Reddog Architects

Playing on the tectonics of repurposing old and new, a variety of differing scale incisions and projections articulates breakout spaces and journeys whilst revealing secrets of exposed concrete and waffle slabs.  New shade devices and a new tropical 'hat' sits atop to protect the building while a trussed southern clerestory provides judicious daylight.

Rockhampton Hospital - New Ward Block
Jacobs/ HASSELL

A complex program is delivered with clarity and purpose. Natural daylight is well orchestrated at thresholds onto deep floor plates and along a northern light shaft to lower ground treatment spaces. Natural timber brings warmth and calmness upon arrival and colour informs the way finding with refreshing vibrancy.

Dudley Denny City Library Mackay Regional Council
STEA Astute Architecture

Reinvigorating the Mackay city centre through the careful placement of a library in a patron gifted site offers multiple user experiences. Meaningful engagement with street life is capitalised with the reading rooms and outdoor terrace hovering above the street and through a glazed lantern overlooking the pedestrian arcade below.

Inverdon House
Chloe Naughton

An essay in the honest expression of materials, a refined structure where transitions and thresholds are enriched by finely honed detailing. Childhood memories inform the narrative of two pavilions either side of a focal living space with porcelain like blockwork and delicate metal filigree interwoven into the daily ritual of occupation.
