Metropolis Congress, October 22-25, Sydney

Early bird registration - Architects looking to learn and network with world mayors, global industry CEO's and leading academics can save $300 by registering for the 9th Metropolis World Congress before June 30.

World leaders from more than 100 cities will connect with the key issues faced by metropolitan regions including the impact of climate change, technology, infrastructure funding and governance. For the first time in human history, more than half of the world's population lives in urban areas. The challenge for Metropolis in the next few years is to find concrete answers to the great questions of the day, not only for citizens, but for all inhabitants of our planet, in terms of transport, urbanism, organisation, public health, environment, development and governance.

The 'Connecting Cities' Metropolis Congress will also focus on emerging economies of China and India and feature workshops on Olympic and Waterfront cities.

Key note speakers confirmed for Metropolis Congress 2008 include:

Dr Rajendra Pachauri - Nobel Peace Prize winning chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to speak on the impact of climate change on urban planning and ways of creating sustainable cities.

Saskia Sassen - Columbia University Lynd Professor who coined the term "Global City" and is a celebrated scholar of globalised cities and network technologies. Sassen will speak on the integral role of connected city relationships in global functions, looking at cities as the links between national and global economies.

Hosted by the NSW Government, Metropolis Congress 2008 is expecting to attract over 1000 delegates from 100 major cities together in a unique world forum to share experience and expertise on the key contemporary issues by cities including climate change, technology, transport, governance, public-private partnerships and urban renewal.

Architecture, planning and design industries are encouraged to register to attend.
