Welcome to the inaugural EmAGN [Emerging Architects + Graduates Network] monthly newsletter. The newly formed EmAGN is a supporting RAIA network for graduate and emerging architect’s groups currently active in all States and Territories throughout Australia. EmAGN seeks to represent interests of graduates and emerging architects on a national level, providing a national voice, and aims to ‘create a design community for graduates and emerging architects to mutually support each other and to foster a culture of architecture’.
In addition to providing support and representation of the needs and interests of all graduates and emerging architects, EmAGN will establish new and exciting initiatives both on a national level and for all local Chapter groups. These initiatives include the Dulux Study Tour 2008, a monthly newsletter outlining current and future events and programmes of all local Chapter groups, a Chapter based Emerging Architect Prize and a RAIA Diary with photography competition.
EmAGN would like to thank all those involved in the establishment of EmAGN in particular David Parken and Ross Clarke for their continuous assistance, support and encouragement and also other RAIA staff Shahana McKenzie and Lucy Bourke. Thankyou to all State and Territory EmAGN representatives whose contribution has been fundamental to the EmAGN initiative and RAIA sponsors Dulux and Virgin Atlantic.
We all look forward to an exciting 2008 where EmAGN plans to build upon a successful establishment and provide graduates and emerging architects with exciting initiatives and opportunities.

Name of state group : Y Arch
Name of representative : Nathan Judd
Y Arch formed in 2005 with the goal of feathering our own nests, feathers were in short supply so we refocused and became a group committed to representing the interests and ambitions of graduate and emerging Architects in the ACT region.
We hold speaker events featuring our peers and contemporaries, run a yearly regi(fru)stration seminar to give people a heads up on the registration process and have been pushing to have a national network of young architect groups established.
We have lots of big ideas like a photo competition/desk diary, developing a media voice and getting the work of young Architects out there + we’ll work towards getting these ideas up.

Name of state group : DARCH
Name of representative : Marcus Trimble
DARCH is a group of energetic architects in NSW that is determined to raise awareness of and provide a platform for discussion of the critical issues that face the city. To this end we run events, publish podcasts, run competitions and host public forums.
We hold Pecha Kucha night in Sydney every two months, usually in the basement of the Commercial Travellers Association in Martin Place, and the latest of which was held in the forecourt of Customs House at Circular Quay as a part of Sydney Design 2007.
In the second half of 2007 we are starting a regular Remarch series that will be a quickfire, wordy, political foil to Pecha Kucha's visual exuberance.

Name of state group : YNTAG – Young Northern Territory Architectural Graduates
Name of representative : Andrew Karl Schulze
The YNTA (Young Northern Territory Architects) was established in early June 2007, by a small committee of enthusiastic professionals who wanted to promote and express the importance of designers involved across all fields of the building industry and within the wider profession of the NT.
As we have only just begun, we are yet to hold any formal events apart from the actual formation of YNTA on the 6th June 2007. Planning is in progress to develop a yearly calendar for the YNTA; some of these have / may include:
On August 16th, there was the Gold Metal Presentation – with drinks afterwards,
October 25th National Awards in Alice Springs – assist with an evening slide show,
Invite local & interstate artists to hold a slide night (similar to Pecha Kucha),
An exhibition where all designers are invited to submit a piece of art / painting / drawing,
lighting event (something similar to sparchel). December Christmas Party
Our long term goal is to progressively increase the number & frequency of events commensurate with experience gained. The YNTA committee also meets at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club approx once a month @ 6:30pm.

Name of state group : New Architects Group (NAG)
Name of representative : Danielle O’Dea
The New Architects Group (NAG) was formed in 2005, to build awareness of the relevance of our place in the profession and to acknowledge, empower and give voice to the new architect.
The New Architects Group is focused on providing a responsive social and information-sharing network which addresses the concerns and interests of recent graduates and registered architects in South Australia. The New Architects Group aims to foster greater dialogue between the newer members and more established members of the profession. To this end we are working on developing more efficient interaction methods, which are relevant to today’s communication technologies and we have elected representation on the RAIA SA Chapter council.
The New Architects Group is working with SONA at a university and graduate level to make the transition between study and practice seamless.
In 2007 the New Architects Group has been involved in a range of events, which include professional lecture sessions with local architects, social networking events and we supported the SONA Superstudio as tutors. Upcoming NAG events include the first Pecha Kucha event in Adelaide and a walking tour of Adelaide's outstanding Architecture and Urban Design. In 2008 NAG will take a leading role in the Adelaide Fringe, helping to host the next Design Derby.

Name of state group : MERGE
Name of representative : Paul Edwards
In 1998, the RAIA-WA established a Young Architects Committee to provide a social network of likeminded young architects and to collectively give them
a voice within the state Chapter. In 2007, the committee formed under the banner of MERGE – emerging architects.
MERGE seeks to bridge the gap from study to practice and to provide an environment conducive for the professional development, intellectual stimulation and social
growth of young and emerging people in Perth’s architectural scene. MERGE’s mission is to assist its members in establishing and developing their architectural
career by providing opportunities to network with other professionals and familiarize themselves with the challenges and issues relating to architectural practice
in Perth.
Currently, the Committee of 7 students, graduates and registered architects collectively organize events such as our annual 3 over 4 under exhibition and forum,
registration seminars, golf day, wine tasting, movie and slide nights, talks on various practices, university talks and sundowners. We also have representatives
on other RAIA committees and other groups such as the Young Professionals Network (YPN-WA). Through association with other groups such as Property Council, Young
Planners and Young Engineers Associations, bridges are established across the borders between future professional leaders within the built environment.
