EmAGN are proud to announce the launch of the EmAGN website. The new site provides information on the group's aims, objectives, initiatives, an E-News archive, EmAGN contacts, links to each Chapter-based group and more. The website will remain updated and continue to develop over the coming months as additional initiatives are developed. Please visit architecture.com.au/EmAGN. Thank you to all involved in the development of the EmAGN website including Todd Paterson (EmAGN WA Representative), Greg Hughes (Australian Institute of Architects) and Fiona Tran (Australian Institute of Architects).

Congratulations to architect, landscape architect and urban design advocate Ken Maher, who on March 19th was named as the 2009 Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medalist. Ken is best known for his range of significant work in Sydney, but also projects in Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and China. Ken began his National Gold Medal Tour in Sydney and continues in Melbourne on Monday 11th May followed by Canberra on Wednesday 13th May. Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Darwin will have the opportunity to hear Ken Maher speak during July, August and October respectively. Once again, in 2009 the Gold Medal Tour will be accompanied by a planned interactive EmAGN event. Details of this event will be released through your local Chapter as the event approaches each State and Territory. The 2009 Gold Medal Tour is proudly sponsored by Principal Corporate Partner, BlueScope Steel.

Session 01 of the 2009 Architectural Practice Examination (APE) is currently underway with Part 01 (logbook submission) completed in early March, Part 02 (written examination) early April and part 03 (examination by interview) throughout May. For exact dates in each State and Territory contact your respective Architects Registration Board. We wish the candidates undergoing the APE in 2009 all the best.

Parallax, the 2009 National Architecture Conference is to be held in Melbourne from Thursday 30th April - Saturday 2nd May. Described by Terrior (Creative Directors) as the 'Writers Festival of Architecture', the conference has an exciting list of international guest speakers. For more information or registration details visit architecture.com.au/parallax. The five successful recipients of the Dulux Study Tour will also be officially announced at the 2009 National Architecture Conference. Thank you to the Australian Institute of Architects Supporting Corporate Partners Dulux and Virgin Atlantic for allowing this amazing and exciting opportunity for emerging architects and graduates to travel to London and Paris in mid May. The 2009 National Conference has also introduced 'Parallaxed' on Friday 01st May at 7.30pm (ZINC, Federation Square). Parallaxed will feature young and emerging architecture practices (m3architecture, Super Colossal and Elenberg Fraser) who have been invited to discuss their work in an informal setting with conference keynote speakers. The purpose of Parallaxed is to search collectively for values and new directions rather than in the medieval tradition of the crit as a form of public humiliation. It is intended that the presentations are short and the discussion is long and extends to the floor towards the end. Critics will include International guests and will be led by Leon van Schaik AO. Entry to Parallaxed is included in full conference registrations.

EmAGN would also like to welcome several new EmAGN representatives. The new representative for South Australia is Anthony Balsamo (Walter Brook and Associates) who takes over from Danielle O'Dea (Paul Campbell Architects), for Victoria Jacqui Alexander takes over from Michael Roper and for Tasmania, Hugh Maguire (Jaws Architects) takes over from Peter Walker (Morris Nunn + Associates Architects). Thankyou to Danielle for her valuable contribution to EmAGN initiatives and group name, to Michael for his role as editor of the EmAGN monthly newsletter and EmAGN branding graphic and to Peter for all his efforts. Danielle, Michael and Peter have been involved as EmAGN representatives since inception of the group.

EmAGN look forward to your continued involvement in EmAGN initiatives and support throughout 2009.

Members of Yarch.Q were actively part of programs in the 2009 IDEAS festival; an event to present ideas, promote public debate and foster and celebrate innovation. An interesting project was Q Garland, a collaboration between Wilson Architects and Donovan Hill that imparted knowledge to the public on the potentials of public space. The project itself was an intervention in the public realm - a temporary installation with images on display showing before and "after" photoshop-ed public spaces within the Millennium Arts Precinct. Each image depicted a different scenario (topics explored - shade, urban farming, a "river city") that could potentially activate underutilised public spaces. The public were encouraged to write their thoughts onto tags and tie it to the installation, contributing to a community notice board. The tags will now be collated by the Queensland Government and compiled into a report. The Architectural Practice Academy and Qld Government Architect Phillip Follent, also ran public architecture tours that allowed the public to interact with Architects and converse the topic of Public space.

PechaKucha Night Vol10 in conjunction with the IDEAS festival was also a huge success with over 700 people crowding into the State Library of Qld. Presenters included Architects Brian Steendyk, Phillip Follent, Timothy Hill and Hamilton Wilson.

Yarch.Q have also been working collaboratively with other state groups to design the new EmAGN banner.

Registration study groups have begun with sessions conducted every second Thursday night. If you are considering sitting your registration this year and would like to be involved, please contact us. yarch.q@gmail.com

March has been an engaging month for NAG. We wandered over to both schools of architecture, and jumped on any available soap box. Mark Berlangieri spoke at Adelaide University about his impending Jack Hobbs McConnell Travelling Fellowship topic; Fashion and Architecture. Together with SONA, NAG let the Uni SA final year students in on what we have on offer to help them transition the shift from study to practice - we talked about our own work too, which is always enlightening for students.

Entries closed for the NAG award this month which is now in its second year. Last year's winner Jane Monk was announced at the 2008 SA Architecture Awards, and this year we'll do the same! NAG wishes the best of luck to all of the entrants.

We still think Adelaide architecture is boring! Be heard. Include your opinion in the blog at: http://voice.architecture.com.au

Lastly, NAG wishes to welcome in a new SA Institute Chapter President Timothy Horton and thank our outgoing President Andrew Vorassi for his support of the group.

Design rarely occurs in a vacuum, yet the serendipitous moments of encounter that inspire design solutions are often downplayed. This month at Process, we present snapshot situations of the design offices of Herbert Mason, Kennedy Nolan Architects and Kalliopi Vakras - allowing them to discuss finished projects, sketch designs, side concerns, favoured books, exhibition openings, cups of coffee and whatever else is on their desks.
