The five successful recipients will be officially announced at Parallax, 2009 National Architecture Conference in Melbourne in April/May. Thank you to the Australian Institute of Architects Supporting Corporate Partners Dulux and Virgin Atlantic for allowing supporting amazing experience for emerging architects and graduates.

Our first event of 2009, PechaKucha Night Brisbane was held on the 11th February at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Over the past year and a half, members of yarch.Q have been involved in producing 8 volumes with over 80 ‘creatives’ from Brisbane and across Australia sharing their ideas and inspiring the audience.

We hope to plan many more events this year, including another series of “In Practice” talks and registration study groups to create better networks and sharing of knowledge between graduates, emerging, and established architects.

2009 SA Architecture Awards Launch
The Official Launch of the 2009 SA Architecture Awards was held at the National Wine Centre on the 29th January, with creative director Andrew Vorassi announcing the theme of the 2009 Architecture Awards SA:

It has been said that ‘Adelaide architecture is boring ... ?’

He went on to say that even in little old Adelaide, from time to time, debate has raged about whether Adelaide architecture is boring...? Unlike Melbourne and Sydney, where the debate is almost constant; whereby people from all walks feel free to voice their opinions. The Institute of Architects calls upon its members, other design professionals and the public to get involved... either to disagree or agree, discuss, defend or dissect.

He emphasised that this debate should not be happening in isolation without input from the architecture community, the wider design professions or the public; to this end, the Institute created a platform for members and the public to engage and become involved. This topic is provocative, subjective and inquiring. Andrew encouraged everyone to be prepared to argue the case.

Have your say about Adelaide Architecture at: voice.architecture.com.au

Andrew Vorassi also announced the nine ‘named’ SA awards which have been named for iconic and influential architects in South Australia, including Jack McConnell, John S Chappell, Newell Platten, Keith Neighbour, Robert Dickson, Gavin Walkley, Marjorie Simpson and Jack Cheesman. The 2009 NAG Award will feature within the State Award categories and recognises the contribution of an Emerging Architect who has made a substantial contribution to architecture in South Australia.

Entries for the 2009 SA Architecture Awards opened on 2nd February and Close on 2nd March.
