Bjørn Stangeland

Bjørn Stangeland has been with Data Design System (DDS) since the company was founded in 1984. His diploma work from the university, was a 3D kitchen planning tool that became one of the first commercial products of DDS.

During his career in DDS, Bjørn Stangeland has had a number of positions including software developer, product manager, CTO and since May 2000 the CEO.

Bjørn Stangeland has been working with BIM (Building Information Modelling) concepts for more than 20 years, perseving the vision of offering the building industry true interoperable, multidisciplinary and cost-efficient solutions.

DDS has been a dedicated and active participant in the IAI (Industry Alliance for Interoperability) organization ever since Bjørn Stangeland proposed a project to extend the Ifc (Industry Foundation Classes) model with the capabilities to handle electrical installations in buildings at a venue in Helsinki, Finland, the 23rd April 2002.

Bjørn Stangeland has very active in the Norwegian buildingSMART initiative, including projects like IDM (Information Delivery Manual) and IFD (International Framework for Dictionaries). DDS software has been used in a number of European buildingSMART projects, including the Norwegian HITOS project. The 19th March 2007, DDS became the first software for building services to achieve Ifc 2x3 certification.
