Kjetil Gjesdal
Kjetil Gjesdal After graduating from Stend Technical College in 1985, Kjetil Gjesdal worked with Frode Halle AS as a surveying engineer on different sites and projects before completing a Master of Science degree in Geodesy and Photogrammetry in 1991 (Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Oslo).

While working as Chief County Surveyor of Finnmark county, Kjetil represented Norway in a multilateral GIS-collaboration project in the Barents-region (Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway), and he also was a state official representative in another bilateral project vs. Lithuania. After 5 years he moved back to his birth-city Bergen, where he took office as Managing Director of the surveying and mapping company Blom Bergen AS.

Since 1999 he has been with the software company of Powel ASA as sales- and product manager. Focusing on IFC and buildingSMART Kjetil know is engaged in the works with adapting Powel software, the Powel 3D Terrain to the new IFC standard. Powel collaborates with DDS and uses the DDS platform for developing the Powel 3D Terrain. Powel software has been used in the Norwegian IFG project (ByggSøk) and lately also in the Norwegian HITOS project.

Powels main objective by implementing the IFC is to make the Powel 3D Terrain to act as an interface, or “glue” between the CAD- and the GIS-world. This will help our customers do their works more efficient. Main focus for the time being is zoning-plans and building-pits/-excavation.
