Gunnar Næss
Gunnar Næss established his firm Næss Architects in 2002. Næss Architects integrates advanced use of CAD and 3D visualisation in projects of all sizes and all types, ranging from interior design to congress buildings and urban planning. The firm's philosophy is that building information models (BIMs) benefit design management with better cooperation between consultants, earlier discovery of problems and better understanding of the building. BIMs also enhance site management in similar ways.
The Norwegian construction industry is proactively adopting information for construction (IFC) -based collaboration, where Gunnar has become well-known for providing a strategic understanding of the impacts of the technology on work practice, collaboration, commerical and legal issues. Working with the Norwegian construction industry and government agencies, Gunnar is involved in a program that has transformed their country's use of advanced building modelling. "The technology is there to establish a BIM," he says. "It's no more expensive than other systems. Our expectation is that it will allow problems to be discovered sooner and lead to better quality overall."Gunnar is President of the Norwegian Association of Consulting Architects and Chairman of the Nordic Architects Association. ![]()
