Opening Party
Level (to be advised), Eureka Tower – 7 Riverside Quay, Southbank Cost as per registration page Thursday 19 April: 6.00pm – 8.00pm Start your conference experience off with an enjoyable evening high up inside the Eureka Tower. The stunning location of the event will allow you to view Melbourne from a different angle. The cocktail event also allows you to organise your own dinner plans so that this is perfect for interstate visitors as well as locals that wish to view Melbourne from on high. A mysterious figure stands, casually, in the midst of delivery, words about to leap from the tongue. No lectern, just the body, and the voice. An audience is gathered around, in multiple postures; some standing, others sitting around tables. Most are listening attentively, but as always there is one particular student more interested in another who sits on the opposite side of the room. Others stand around the bar, enjoying cheap drinks, still discussing their experiences from the day of Supatute. Near the entrance, a poster on the wall advertises a large number ten with the words 'SONA 10 IN 2007'. 'ACTION!' There is life, there is (maybe) love, and there is Architecture. It is clubSONA. Pecha Kucha Night BMW Edge Theatre at Federation Square Free entry upon presentation of Full Conference Pass / $10.00 for others Friday 20 April: 10.30 until late Pecha Kucha Night was created in 2003 by Tokyo’s Klein Dytham Architecture as a place for designers to meet, network and show their work in public. The key to the event is the system for encouraging brevity, whereby 20 people show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. Pecha Kucha has tapped into a global demand (it is active in 33 cities around the World) for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown. It is a new kind of event for anyone involved in, or interested in, architecture, design, fashion, art, craft, multi media or any creative field. Pecha Kucha Night will take on the world when Volume 03 presents not only Melbourne’s home grown talent, but the international architects who are speaking at the conference. Pecha Kucha kicked off its Melbourne series in November 2006, drawing a crowd of over 600 people. Speakers included jeweller Julia deVille, architects Randal Marsh and Ian Moore, fashion designers Material By Product, graphic designers tin&ed and IsNotMagazine, publisher and tattooist Thomas Jeppe, cartoonist Andrew Weldon, photographers Barbera&Whitman, and digital media group Horse Bazaar, along with many others.
