Des Smith

Des Smith Professor Des Smith has been a practicing architect in Victoria since 1981, and in Western Australia since 1984. He has been lucky enough to have been closely associated with the realisation of over seventy architectural projects in both Victoria and Western Australia. These projects include residential, commercial and public buildings. He has also been closely associated with architectural projects for Indigenous Communities in Western Australia (in the Kimberly and the Wheatbelt Regions of that vast state).

He has been teaching architecture, at various levels, since 1983. He has taught at all of the Schools of Architecture in Victoria, and at the University of Western Australia. He is currently Professor of Architecture at the School of Architecture and Building at Deakin University, Victoria.

This life in Architecture is an consciously ongoing project. He does puzzle over why there are more books on the architecture of, say Tadao Ando, than on the architecture of Michelangelo.
