Following the success of Supatute at the 2007 Conference, Critical Visions is developing the tutorial style session through sTute: a Student Studio Critique.
sTute will run on Thursday 10 April from 8.45am to 12.00pm prior to the official opening of the 2008 National Architecture Conference. Selected Australian and International Keynote speakers from the Conference will act as tutors, with registered SONA and student attendees invited to bring along work for discussion and feedback from some of the world’s most influential architects.
Full Conference registration for SONA members and student non-members only entitles entry to sTute. Numbers for students will be strictly limited and at the discounted price student tickets are expected to sell out quickly. Book early to ensure you don’t miss out!
Richard Francis-Jones, has offered a nation-wide student project: The Dialectical Bridge. The challenge is to design a footbridge to connect two sides of a river, two places and two cities.
An exhibition will be staged of selected student projects as part of Critical Visions. The finest student submissions will be short-listed for critique by a distinguished panel of national and international architects and academics during one of the main conference sessions. Eminent British architect, Chris Wilkinson of Wilkinson Eyre Architects, will chair the jury panel.
There are some great prizes on offer!
- The design that is deemed the most outstanding by the jury panel at the Conference will receive one economy return flight to London, thanks to Virgin Atlantic Airways!
- Creators of submissions selected for display in Sydney will receive a complimentary pass to the 2008 RAIA National Architecture Conference.
In the event of group submissions, a maximum of 2 x Conference passes will be provided.
There are two ways to get involved:
Selected submissions should be delivered to the RAIA NSW Chapter Office between 28 March and 3 April 2008. The RAIA will provide display Plinths to match the model dimensions for each submission. Group submissions are welcome. DO NOT SEND YOUR BRIDGE MODEL TO THE CONFERENCE OR RAIA UNLESS DIRECTED TO BY THE RAIA.
Designs that are exhibited at the conference will be available for collection from the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday 13 April between 10.00am and 11.00am in the Parkside G05 room.

There is a wide range of inexpensive student accommodation available in Sydney. SONA has stayed at and recommends either the YHA Railway Square and the most convenient location for both the Sydney Central Railway Station, or the Blue Parrott in Potts Point.
