IN THE ARCHITECTS WORDS
This is a house sited on an eastern block adjacent to a nature reserve in suburban Canberra. There are extensive views across the valley to the East as well as those into the nature reserve to the West. The house has four bedrooms , three on the upper level for visiting children or guests, the main bedroom being located on the middle level. The upper level also accommodates a music room, open to the levels below, a bathroom, study and deck. The middle level contains the main living zones of the house, dining and formal living area and the sitting area adjacent to the

kitchen. The different living areas have differing characters and all open onto elevated decks or paved areas at ground level. The building incorporates a large office as the client works from home. Upon their retirement, this area can be converted into a separate flat. The exposed materials within the building were left in their natural state and their grain and colours form the only decoration. The building is responsive to the climate by taking advantage of cooling breezes, shading itself from hot sun, admitting winter sun and protecting itself from winter winds.
