The project was commissioned in the 1960s and designed by Le Corbusier with a young associate, Jose Oubrerie, who is now a professor at Ohio State University's Knowlton School of Architecture and is finally bringing the project to fruition after years of delays and interruptions. The requirement was for the design of a pavilion, and like the more well known landmark parachute jump in 1939, it will stay on the island for one year.
